Peace on Earth

As the Holiday's creep closer and closer, we all subconsciously prepare for the added stress of Christmas shopping, cooking, hosting, traditions, family, financial struggles, weight gain, and just an all-around busier schedule.

Funny how we say "Peace on Earth" and then live chaotically!

Galations 5:22-23  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control
Those are all important, but I want to focus on peace. What is it?

I think the meaning behind the word "peace" has been lost in the overuse of peace symbols, the peace sign, and the world's definitions of having peace.

Now, I'm not usually the type to go look into the Greek to translate words from the Bible; however, I accidentally came across this and loved it! The word translated “peace” in Bible is shalomShalom means not just "peace", but also:
  • tranquility
  • safety
  • well-being
  • welfare
  • health
  • contentment
  • success
  • comfort
  • wholeness
  • integrity
So next time, you get really overwhelmed, stressed, worried, or anxious, ask God for His kind of peace...it sounds awesome!

Philippians 4:7
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding,
will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
