Don't forget to love your kids

It seems like a strange topic: loving your kids.
Isn't that a given?

Earlier this summer, when sweet pea and I were on the plane ride home from Minnesota, an older couple sitting across the isle from me approached me as the flight was almost over and told me that it was encouraging to see how much I loved my daughter.
They said they see so many parents these days who aren't loving towards their children and it shows in the way the kids act! Kid's are often treated as an annoyance rather than a blessing.

I thanked the couple and told them that sweet pea was a blessing from the Lord. I couldn't imagine not loving her!

The encounter with this couple was not only encouraging to me as a mom, but it was also very sobering. Is it that easy to get caught up in life and stop being a loving mom?
It was such a good reminder to me that even when I may feel like my job is mundane or insignificant, there really are people watching, and my "job" as a mom can be a reflection of Christ!

I struggle with insecurity when it comes to being a stay at home mom. I wonder if I should be doing more. Does what I'm doing really impact anyone?
I was so encouraged that someone noticed the love of Christ in the way that I mothered. I hope that He got the glory and that He continues to be glorified in how I live my life. That's what is most important!

When you have bills to pay, a second job, errands to run, appointments to make, a house to clean, a yard to maintain, and so much more, your baby crying for you doesn't always seem like a blessing.
It's all about perspective. In 20 years, what will matter? Will it be the money you made, your super clean house, your nicely manicured lawn, or all the people you impressed? I doubt it.

I bet in 20 years we will wish we had loved our kids more when we had the chance, that we had read that story for the 27th time, that we had left that load of laundry for tomorrow and rocked the baby to sleep.

It's something I can't be reminded of too often.
Remember, the world is watching. Let's be an example of Christ's love in the lives of our children!
Colossians 3:17
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

  9. I cant even tell you how much I LOVE this post! Its so important to love your kids and show them how important they are! It breaks my heart when I see parents who are detached from their kids or just not showing them the affection they need. I struggle with being a stay at home mom, and wondering if Im doing enough. This post is so encouraging! Thank you for writing this! I'm so excited to keep exploring your blog! :)
