The 4th of July is the perfect day to spend with family and friends and a great reminder not to take our freedom for granted. Although I am saddened by the direction our country seems to be headed, I am still extremely grateful for the freedom we have in America.

When I was younger, my family used to sing a song with the lyrics,

"Freedom isn't free, it's price was paid at Calvary, and in the years since then, it's price has been paid again and again."

I know Jesus' death probably isn't the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the 4th of July. However, as we celebrate our physical freedoms here on earth, it's even more exciting to remember that Jesus paid the ultimate price so we could be free.

I am so thankful for Calvary today and for the price that was paid so I could be free from the guilt of sin. I am also very thankful for all of the brave men and women who have served this country and followed Christ's example of sacrificial love so we could be free.

Today as we go to parades, eat yummy food, light sparklers and go to the fireworks, lets remember...Freedom has a price, and it's because it has been paid that we can celebrate today!

Happy 4th of July!

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
