Let's get real mamas

There are many times when I visit other mama blogs, see their well dressed babies, cutsie selves, photos of clean houses, and I find myself assuming that they are perfect. And I am not.

It's easy to get the wrong picture of someone's life when you only catch a glimpse of it.

One of my goals with this blog is to make sure that I'm real with my readers. I'm not a supermom or superwife, I'm just me...with my good days, and my bad!

I know most of the time I only share the good photos and write about the fun things I've got going on. So to keep things real, here are some behind the scenes from the life of Faith:

This is serious stuff. top secret. classifieds.
See how serious we are?

Ok, here goes!

You know those houses that are all over Pinterest. You know the kind with the organized closets, sparkly kitchens and adorable laundry rooms?
That's not what my house looks like. I promise.
I have plenty of sink-full-of-dishes and overflowing-laundry-basket kind of days.
It's just life.

Don't even get me started on my car. It's a 1999 Toyota Corolla.
No, not a shiny SUV, but I'm proud we paid cash for it and it runs!
(I would take pictures, but I'm lazy and don't want to go outside right now haha)
There is no door handle on the outside drivers side...and no door handle on the inside on the passenger side. Figure that one out!

My diaper bag looks like it went through a blender. twice.
But to be fair it's from all of those one handed frantic grabs for a toy, wet wipe or pacifier.
Yes, poor Sophie the giraffe is suffocating in the mess!

I do love to get dressed cute for the day, and I try to be intentional about not looking frumpy...
but some days only sweatpants or comfy shorts will do.

I'm all about eating healthy...
but I will admit that I cheat. In fact, I am currently sitting in my bed eating chips and cheese dip. Yup. (hiding my face in shame as you read that)

I think my daughter thinks I'm weird.
And it's quite possible that I am.
Yes we do have random mini photo shoots together...poor baby.

I'm sure these are all things that other mamas can relate to in some way or another. Instead of being critical of each other and always trying to one up our fellow mama's let's get real and remember that it's not a competition to see who has it together the most. These things really aren't important in the grand scheme of life!

What is important is that we are loving our children, spending time with them, being patient with them, raising them well, and glorifying God even in the midst of chaos! I cherish the moments I have with sweet pea whether it's bath time or story time. That time with her is so much more than a Pinterest house or a glam makeover!

  6. Me too, this was such an encouraging post. I started following you when you were posting on the Pregnancy link-up, and I've loved seeing your growth as a new mum. I remember reading your birth story and taking notes because I was only a few months behind. You're a fantastic mum and a great person to share this and encourage other mum's like us that our houses are constant work, and hardly ever look Pininteresty...and if they do, it's before children wake up and husband's come home from work :) Bless you!

  8. Hear, hear! It is so true! I try to be "real", too, and hope my readers don't think I'm some kind of super mom, 'cause I'm a hot mess. Ha ha!

  9. Ooh, good post! I do know what you mean, a few people have referred to me as "supermum" in the past because of the posts I put on my blog - and then it makes me annoyed as it's not what I want to portray at all!! I'm not supermum and certainly find most days a struggle, and then when we do have good days, I like to share it because I feel up and positive (and as a record of the things we've done). I would love to live in a pinterest house, but lets face it, with three kids it's never gonna happen - ha ha.

  15. Haha! LOVE this! If you will see my house everyday, it's always a mess. Toys everywhere, sticky floors and sink full of dishes.

  16. I drive a 2000 Honda civic that I paid for in cash and I love it even more because I can say that I saved and bought it all by myself! Be proud!! Culture tells us to finance everything and own nothing. I think it's ridiculous. Being smart and saving to own your car is something you should be super proud of!! Go you!

  17. Love this! I always think it's so funny that bloggers secretly have a messy house behind the camera frame...I know I do!

  19. I don't have a pinterest home either--and I can't imagine that anyone really does. I mean, there's no possible way that your tube of toothpaste is ever going to look cute lying on your bathroom counter, and there's also no possible way that any human would ever remember to get a tube of toothpaste out of a cute little cubby and put it back in several times a day. I'm all for what's practical!

And I also love my '96 Chevy--I'll keep driving it for as long as I can. Real life is far better than any picture perfect life I've ever seen--and real life includes plenty of picture perfect moments, too! :)

  20. Found you on Oh Happy Day, This post is perfect, even if we aren't, while my house is almost always spotless, it is because I have OCD, mine would be barely finding the time to actually look beautiful, I love me some sweats, and PJ's lol, and that diet I am on, well from time to time I fail, but that's okay. My mucnhkins know I am weird and they love me anyway, that is the beauty of being a Mommy!

  22. Found you through weekend reads. First, those pictures are adorable. Second, I'm not a mom, but I have a feeling I would be the exact same as you. Even though I'm kidless (and petless), there are more days than not where real clothes sound like the worst idea ever. You are doing a great job! Perfection is overrated. :)

    xoxo
