Passion Pursuit-What kind of love are you making?

When I was first asked to review Dr. Juli Slattery and Linda Dillow's new bible study Passion Pursuit: What kind of love are you making?, I was hesitant.
Do I really want to write about sex on my blog?
Because I want this blog to be a ministry to other moms, wives and sisters in Christ, I decided to take a step outside of my comfort zone and share this with you to be an encouragement; maybe even a challenge!
As Christian women, we should not be afraid to discuss the topic of sexual intimacy within marriage.
After all, sex was created by God!
The deal was sealed when I saw that the study was written by two of my favorite women. Linda Dillow is my all time favorite author and I love Dr. Juli from Focus on the Family. I have learned so much from both of these women!

I loved this study from the minute I opened the cover. The way it is written is so personal and fun! I felt like I was having a girls weekend with Linda and Juli and I couldn't wait to get started.
The very first chapter dives right in to the Biblical perspective of our responsibility as wives. A lot of times we don't realize the power of influence that we have over our husbands!

Proverbs 14:1 "The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down."

That power can be used to build up...or destroy.

I love that this study doesn't give a "cookie cutter" remedy for having a successful marriage or a good sex life. It takes a look at relevant Bible passages and then encourages you to determine how they apply to your individual marriage and your own husbands needs. Linda and Juli take a look at the sexual things that are forbidden in the Bible and the sexual things that are encouraged within a marriage. It's not just about pleasing your husband as much as it is about pleasing the Lord and bringing Him glory in your marriage.

This study is totally interactive and not just an easy get-through-it read. It challenged me to think about my own marriage from a Biblical perspective and realize that there was a lot of room for improvement in my own attitude towards things. Linda and Juli don't shy away from tackling the hard topics; this study covers everything from sexual abuse in your past to dealing with sexual temptations. Passion Pursuit is really designed to get you thinking about what may be hindering you from the love and passion God desires for your marriage.

This study has been so refreshing for me and my marriage as I work my way through it. In a culture that has such a jaded view of sex, even within marriage, Passion Pursuit brings it all back to what the Bible says and what God's design is for passion within marriage.

  1. Interesting question, and I'd say yes. It's really hard to not let the culture's view affect your view. I'd love to read this study!

  3. This is a topic that I think remains pretty untouched by many women in the blogging community. Its nice to see another real side of marriage, outside of just the "safe" topics like children and general talk about husbands.

    Thanks for sharing this!

    1. Thanks for your comment Tenns! It definitely isn't a comfortable topic...especially to write about where everyone can see it. It's such an important part of marriage though and I'm glad I had the opportunity to share this!

    1. Hi Mary! Yes, absolutely. That's what I loved the most. We need God's view, not man's!
Hope you can experience this study as well!

  6. Yes, I think the culture's view of passion in marriage has affected the way I view passion in my own marriage. When we see passion in movies, TV shows, magazines, etc. it's often in relation to couples who are dating, not married..or, sadly, couples having an affair. Marriage is often portrayed as mundane and restricting - juggling kids, work, soccer practices, family dinners, etc. Sex is often either nonexistent or a hassle. I'd like to think that sex is more exciting and frequent in marriage than the culture tends to show. :) I've read a few books by Juli and Linda and I'm excited to see what they have to say about passion in marriage!
