10 Toddler outings for all seasons!

I don't know about you, but getting out of the house every now and again is good for this mama. It may seem overwhelming to try to think of somewhere to go with a busy toddler in tow, but here are a few of our favorite places to visit when we have a get-out-of-the-house kind of day!

1. The Library.
My two year old LOVES the library. Not only is there story time 2x a week, a play and learn program on Fridays, but there is a plethora of books for her to read. Being at the library can occupy her for hours! It's a great place to go if I just need to relax and want my daughter to be doing something educational.

2. Children's Museum.
Not every town has them, but most bigger cities have a children's museum packed with activities to keep your child busy. Your toddler is sure to love all the artsy activities, music rooms, and playing with all the other crazy children running around in there.

3. The Zoo.
Even in the winter, most Zoo's have indoor sections where you can still visit some animals.

4. The Mall.
Just don't have high expectations to be doing any shopping! Our mall has a carousel and a play place for kids. I also love to just put my daughter in her stroller and get some exercise as she people watches/creeps!

5. The Park.
Even on chilly days, my daughter loves to bundle up and play at the park. We don't stay as long, but it helps get some of her pent up energy out!

6. An Inflatable Factory.
Our small town actually has 3 different inflatable places that you can bring your kids to jump and play. They are indoor with blow up slides, trampolines, toys and more! They can be a little more expensive, but your toddler is sure to have a blast! Even mom can join in the fun!

7. Pet Store.
Whenever I'm taking my toddler on a shopping outing, we try to make a quick stop by the pet store so she can see the puppies, kitties, bunnies and more. She LOVES it! I know it won't be long before she's trying to convince me that she needs to bring all the animals home with her!

8. The Lake/River
If you live by a lake, a river, or even close to a pond, pack a picnic and bring some extra bread for the ducks. Kids love water and there's something relaxing about it for mama as well!

9. Backyard.
If you have a backyard, just let your child explore, find cool leaves, pick up sticks, catch toads, eat bugs, and get dirty! It's so good when kids get out and learn to use their imagination to make fun!

10. The Theater.
I know you're thinking yeah right, but a lot of theaters have discount kid's movies during the day for just a couple dollars. That way if your toddler doesn't make it through the movie, you aren't really out too much. You might be surprised by how a big screen can keep your toddler captivated for a good while!

*Bonus idea: During the Christmas season, take your kids to the local Menards or other stores with Christmas displays and walk them through the wonderland of lights, trees and Christmas decorations, then come home and let your toddler "help" you put up some lights to get you in the Christmas spirit :)

In the difficulty of motherhood, it's so important to find other mamas to relate to.  Toddlers can be a handful and leave you wondering what to do next.  This series is here to help you navigate through toddlerhood while being able to relate to other mamas going through the same thing.  We may not always know what we are doing but we give it our best shot anyway.  Come back each week to check out our new topic and read along with the other hosts of our One Year and Beyond series!

  1. Those are some great ideas! Thanks for sharing!

  2. These are great suggestions! We love our childerens muesums and our trampoline park has toddler time, so it's nice that everyone is little and you don't have to worry about big kids knocking your kid down! And it's only $6, even better!

  3. Two things I always wish we had in our area: a mall with a play area and movie theaters that cater to kids. There are some about 20-30min away but not in the greatest area. Great list!

  4. Love these ideas! We're transitioning to one nap and starting to get out to explore more and more. Any tips for avoiding winter colds & germs on all of our adventures? Which of these places would you recommend for the littlest toddlers (I have a 15 month old)?

    1. THe best tips for avoiding germs is to keep your toddler's immune system boosted! WE use a liquid multivitamin from the Healthy Home Company: and I also use their spray sanitizer everywhere we go:

For a 15 month old I would say the children't museum for sure, the Zoo, and inflatable factories. Those are all great for even your young one :)
