Spring Activities for Toddlers

It's that time of year. FINALLY, right? I know that all of the mothers in the northern regions of the world have said a quick "thank you Jesus, Amen" for the warm days when we can take our little one's outside to release all that pent up winter energy.

But it's easy to get outside with your crazy toddler and still be at a loss for what to do with them. Most toddler's left to their own imaginations will end up finding trouble. Trust me. I've learned.

So here are a few fun outdoor activities that we are filling our spring days with and enjoying every second of them!

1. Sidewalk chalk paint.

A good friend of mine actually made some of this paint for our toddlers to play in. It was a fun mix-up from the traditional chalk that we typically use. The colors were so vibrant and it was fun to paint with them. The only thing that I would recommend is trying to paint on a smoother surface. Our paint kind of sunk into the driveway cracks. Still a fun time though. And as a disclaimer, our toddlers were covered with paint after this fun event so make sure your toddler is wearing play clothes or no clothes!

2. Fishing

You can't go wrong with an afternoon or evening at the lake and a little fishing with daddy. My husband bought our daughter her own pink pole for Christmas and she loves to cast it and reel. She even reeled in her first fish this last week. Who says 2 year old girls can't catch fish?

3. We're Going To The Zoo!
If you don't know the zoo song than count your blessings because it's stuck in my head until the day I die. We love walking the trails at our little local zoo and seeing what animals might be out! A zoo membership is great for last minute trips when there's nothing else to do on a nice day!

4. Rocks in a Jug
I totally made this one up and am proud of it. I have some empty water jugs that I have lying around to use for gardening and one day as I was trying to get some seeds planted, I gave my daughter the task of collecting little rocks and pebbles to put in the jug. She loved it! After she found several, we put the lid on and I let her shake it around!

5. Feed the Birds
This has been an endless source of entertainment at our house. We went and bought a bird feeder and some seed and I let her fill up the feeder and watch for the birds. She gets so excited every time she see's them eating "her" food!

6. The park
The park is another one of those great places to enjoy a nice day and watch your toddler use up some of that endless energy. It's been fun to watch my daughter be a "big girl" this year and go down the bigger slides and swing all by herself. And I encourage you to be one of those parents that plays WITH their child at the park rather than sitting on the sidelines. They are only this little once, so let's play at the park while we have an excuse :)

7. Gardening
I don't know about yours, but my little one loves to "help" me with whatever I'm working on. Even though it takes me longer most of the time, I am learning to find little tasks for my toddler to help me with, whether it's filling up a pot with soil, watering the plants, or carrying seed packets. She loves every minute of it and I enjoy having a little "helper" as well.

That is all I have for you right now, but I'm sure there are many more wonderful ideas out there. Share them in the comments below or even better, link up your Spring/Summer activities post in our link up!

In this link up we want to share with you what we've found that has worked for us as new mamas to toddlers. Because we're experts  after being moms for a few years or so, right? Not really, but we have some experience and want to share what we've learned and we'd love to learn from you, too!
