Love Worth Bragging About


My 4 year old daughter loves to steal my phone and take a million selfies and videos of herself. I don't know where she gets it from because I'm officially past the selfie stage of life. I promise.

I don't usually find the rows of photos and videos until I run out of storage on my phone. The struggle is real! I usually pause to appreciate the antics of my adorable tiny human before deleting the crazy eyes and silly song videos to make room for more.
As I watched one such video of my daughter dancing and singing silly as if no one was watching, the phrase "my mommy loves me so much" came out of her mouth. It caught me off guard, but stirred something meaningful inside of me. 

No one handed my daughter lyrics and told her to sing of my love. It was a natural expression of her confidence in my love and it truly warmed my heart. 

I wondered if God feels the same way when we sing of His love out of the overflowing of our hearts. Not because the words are on a screen or we're being told to "praise God" but because we are truly excited about His love enough to brag about it.

I whispered the same phrase my daughter had, only with God in the place of mommy. 

"My God loves me so much."

Do I believe that enough that it escapes my lips in confidence when I'm just happy? It's never something I find natural to brag about because...well...to be honest, I struggle with feeling worthy of love. To boast of it makes me feel like I'm implying that I'm worthy of it. And I'm not.
1 Corinthians 1:31
"so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”
The truth and beauty of God's love rests in the fact that it is undeserved. He loves me because I'm his daughter, not because I do good or bad things. He sees me as worthy simply because I'm His, just like my daughter knows she is loved because she's mine.

I think if we truly grasped the enormous gift that God's love is, we wouldn't just sing about it in church or when someone tells us to. It would escape our lips with pure joy in just knowing we are loved. It's a love worth bragging about. 
Ephesians 3:14-19"For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God."
